Mikael Holmqvist is Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Midguard Systems Ab, the Vaasa-based developer of the Midguard 3220 BLDC motor platform for UAV propulsion.
Professional background
Mikael has more than ten years of experience in electric and BLDC motor development. His earlier work includes Power Tools R&D and project management at Mirka.
Role at Midguard Systems
At Midguard Systems, Mikael leads motor architecture and engineering, bench testing, qualification and production development. He owns the technical definition of the 3220 platform and its 700 KV and 950 KV pre-production variants.
The platform was developed from scratch rather than adapted from an existing design, specifically so that it can be built around magnet grades that are sourceable in Europe. Mikael applies hands-on motor know-how to that goal, working through the trade-offs between magnet configuration, electromagnetic design, thermal behaviour and what a European supply base can actually deliver.
Current work focuses on bench testing, OEM evaluation support, qualification planning and preparing repeatable pilot production in Finland. Sourcing decisions stay configuration-dependent and are defined per program against a specific bill of materials.
